Features
The developmental characteristics of the Department focus on three core objectives: Teaching, Research, and Service. These are detailed as follows:
I. Teaching Characteristics
- Our faculty leads instruction through practical application and applied research. With extensive teaching experience, they rigorously monitor student learning outcomes, ensuring that our graduates are highly welcomed and recognized by enterprises in the workplace. Students who choose to pursue further studies will also find it easy to pass entrance exams for national university graduate programs, continuing their academic development.
- Practical projects are a mandatory part of the curriculum. The Department organizes project competitions, compiles the results into a collection of papers, and encourages undergraduates to participate in specialized research projects to enhance their professional knowledge, practical skills, and experience. We also invite industry experts to serve as curriculum planning committee members, integrating "Last Mile" concepts so that graduates can quickly transition into the workforce.
- We encourage students to take professional technical certification exams to acquire necessary expertise, which helps enhance their competitiveness in the job market after graduation. Students are also highly encouraged to participate in various international competitions.
II. Research Characteristics
Based on faculty expertise, the Department's research fields are divided into four major directions: "Integrated Circuit (IC) Design and Application," "Semiconductor and Optoelectronic Applications," "Artificial Intelligence Systems," and "Communication Systems." We emphasize the development of practical application technologies aligned with national industrial trends. By securing research grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology and other government ministries, we integrate high-tech electronics with industrial needs, thereby enhancing national competitiveness and technological development.
"Integrated Circuit (IC) Design and Application": Analog/Digital IC Design, RF IC Design, Mixed-Signal IC Design, Optical Communication IC Design, Low-Power Wireless Application System-on-Chip (SoC) Design, Digital Chip Design, and Integrated Electronic Circuit Design.
"Semiconductor and Optoelectronic Applications": Semiconductor Manufacturing Processes, IC Fabrication, Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) Processes, Semiconductor Devices, Optoelectronic Devices, Solar Cells, Sensing Elements, Nanomaterials, Fluorescent Materials, and Piezoelectric Materials.
"Artificial Intelligence Systems": Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, Image Processing, Intelligent Robotics, Embedded Systems, Video Coding, Smart Factories and Production Lines, Medical Image Inspection, Industrial Visual Inspection and Measurement, Intelligent Video Surveillance, and Smart Vehicle Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
"Communication Systems": Microwave Circuit Design, Microwave Measurement, Microwave Dielectric Materials, Wireless Communication, Fiber Optic Communication, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), AIoT Design and Application, Multi-User Wireless Transmission and Reception Techniques, Signal Processing, and B5G System Applications.
III. Service Characteristics
- Our faculty provides professional services in electronics, optoelectronics, communications, IC design, and AI systems. Through the university's Incubation Center, we aim to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in related fields to develop new products and create their own brands.
- In the future, the Department hopes to establish robust industry-academic interaction and cooperation models by providing on-the-job training for employees of public and private enterprises in the Yunlin-Chiayi region through industry-university collaboration. We also strive to undertake vocational training programs in electronic-related fields for the government to help resolve local employment issues.
- To serve the community and promote industrial upgrading, the Department aims to frequently organize academic seminars and technical forums in electronics, optoelectronics, communications, and AI, facilitating the advancement of related industries.
